About my class...

Second grade is such a special grade for so many reasons.  The first being, the students get to participate in their first reconciliation and first communion.  It is such an exciting time for the students and their families.  In Second grade, we are reading stories out loud and on our own.  We partner read with one another to have that peer to peer communication.  We also do narrative writing, opinion writing, and biographical writing.  We learn about proper nouns, common nouns, adjectives, adverbs, subjects, and predicates.  In math, we focus on two digit addition and subtraction, time, money, and measurement.  We also learn many base ten strategies to make addition and subtraction easier for us. In science we focus on living things and non living things as well as animals and their needs.  In social studies we learn a variety of topics from local government to map skills.   Every morning, we write in our journals to start the day. We attend mass every Wednesday as a school.  We have “specials” every day which include Computers, Spanish, Gym, Art, Music, and Library.

A typical school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and goes until 3:00.  Second graders have a mid morning snack and recess.  We have lunch at 12:20, followed by afternoon recess.  We attend the Cincinnati Children’s Theatre 3 times a year.  We also do a community service project as a class like collecting canned goods or disaster relief items.   Second grade is such a fun year to learn and grow.  Second graders are learning to find their voice as well as be able to write about their thoughts and opinions.  Come and see why St. B is the best place for your second grader!
