Welcome to St. Bernadette School!

St. Bernadette School is a Pre-K to 8 Catholic elementary school which serves primarily the following parishes in southern Clermont and Adams Counties: St. Bernadette in Amelia, St. Mary's in Bethel and St. Peter's in New Richmond. However, any student is welcome from every Parish and every area.

We offer three different classes in our Preschool program, each designed to meet the needs and readiness of three and four-year-olds. Classes for three-year-olds meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:00-11:00 a.m.   Four-year-olds have two different schedules available:  Morning classes that meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8:00-11:00 a.m., and a pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds from 12:00-3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (five days).

A CATHOLIC VALUE-BASED EDUCATION... Rooted in heritage and a strong Christian spirit, the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church are interwoven throughout the daily classroom instruction at the Amelia school that has been in operation since 1944. Emphasis is given to academics, social and civil responsibility, and spiritual growth. The mission of St. Bernadette School is to offer the highest quality education in a Catholic environment. We educate the whole child to prepare students to participate actively in their Church, their family and their community.

STRONG CURRICULUM--EXCEPTIONAL TEST SCORES... With a 14:1 student / teacher ratio, individual attention is given to each child, ensuring growth at every level from pre-school through eighth grade. Art, music, physical education, and health are essential elements to the educational curriculum, as are Spanish, computer technology and weekly liturgy. Community service projects strengthen the students’ understanding of Christian living and social responsibility; as a school, students spend over 1,200 hours in community service projects. A rigorous curriculum is used at St. Bernadette School, and this is evident by the students it yields. St. Bernadette Sabers out-perform their regional counterparts on national tests and score at or above Archdiocesan averages on IOWA achievement tests. Last year’s graduating class of 17 students earned over $78,000 in renewable high school scholarships.

21st CENTURY LEARNERS... Kindergarten, first, and second grade classrooms integrate iPads into classroom learning, with Reading and Math programs at their fingertips that encourage learning in an exciting way. Third, fourth and fifth grade classrooms have Chromebooks available. Each sixth, seventh and eighth grade student is assigned a Lenova Thinkpad II, allowing upper grade students to email assignments, share electronic folders, and collaborate digitally. St. Bernadette students are encouraged to incorporate grade-appropriate computer skills in their classes for research, independent learning, presentations, and projects. All classrooms are equipped with interactive Smartboard technology.
